Distribution of IPM Center funds: Southern Region

This is the first in a series of four posts detailing how the Regional IPM Centers have distributed competitive grant funds.

Each IPM Center is funded with just under $1 million annually. Generally speaking about 20% of that goes to the host university in indirect charges, 40% covers core expenses including personnel and travel, and about 40% is spent on projects. The “project” 40% is most often distributed using a competitive process. Occasionally projects are funded through processes other than the annual grants competitions.

IPM Enhancement Grants: SRIPMC funds are distributed through the IPM Enhancement Grants program. The Request for Applications are released once each year. We use two RFAs:

• Type 1 funds State Contact Projects, IPM Documents, and IPM Work Groups (Working Groups were in Type 2 prior to 2009).
• Type 2 funds Startup Projects and Capstone Projects. Prior to 2009, IPM Work Groups were included in Type 2 under one of these broader classifications.

Funding for each project type: Although some Type 1 projects included both State Contact and IPM Documents components, the information shown below shows funds devoted exclusively to each component.
