I’ve noticed that we’re getting hits from people searching for information about bed bugs. For this week’s blog, I’m going to send you to the Insects in the City blog out of Texas AgriLife Extension Service. Entomologist Mike Merchant discusses research from two scientists from the University of Sheffield who report on how to dis-infest your bedding and clothing in the laundry.

Getting bed bugs out of your laundry is simple. Wash on one load then dry on two. Don’t put dry laundry in the dryer to kill bed bugs. I know it’s sometimes advised, but as a former bed bug, uh, victim, I actually saw a bed bug climb out from the front of a lint trap in our common laundry. I can only assume someone else with bed bugs had stuffed infested bedding into the dryer and that little bug did not die from the heat as it was in the front of the dryer. Imagine thinking you had killed them all and then bringing one back into your newly treated home from the dryer, starting your infestation all over again.
