Section 406 Programs Part 2: The Risk Avoidance and Mitigation Program

RAMP funds projects involve the development and implementation of sustainable IPM strategies and systems for multi-crop production systems, large-scale agroecosystems, or documented pesticide impact on human or environmental health. Productivity and profitability are emphasized while addressing critical environmental quality and human health issues.

Researchers interested in long-term, region-wide research projects for a longer period of time usually apply for a Risk Avoidance and Mitigation grant, or RAMP grant. RAMP funds 3-4 year projects that emphasize system approaches for multi-crop systems for several states or a region. Projects must be multi-state or regional in scale, and like the Crops At Risk program, proposals need to show stakeholder priorities as published in a Pest Management Strategic Plan and the goals identified in the National Roadmap for Integrated Pest Management.

The following projects in the southern region have been funded under the RAMP program:

A Reduced-Risk System For Managing Thrips And Tomato Spotted Wilt Virus In Tomato And Pepper In The Southeastern USA 2008 Riley, D. G. University Of Georgia
Athens, Georgia
Integrated Post-Harvest Rice Management And Information Delivery: Optimizing Insect Control And Grain Quality 2007 Wilson, L. T. Texas A&M Univ
