Government shutdown affects IPM research

Some Americans feel the effect of government business more keenly than others. The current government shutdown has not changed my personal activities, but in the profession of IPM, many researchers are stymied by locked buildings or the inability to do their work.

Entomology Today posted an article today about how the shutdown is affecting entomologists’ research, but many plant pathologists and weed scientists are also facing the same frustrations in terms of crucial timing in their projects. Some users have commented on an article I posted in Southern IPM News that asked for reports of the brown marmorated stink bug; because USDA has taken all of their websites offline, any citizen reports or interactions are currently on hold.

If you have time, please read the article, and if you’re having a similar experience, please comment.
