Organic farmers to share info with beginning farmers, home gardeners

Home gardeners and beginning farmers who want to learn techniques for organic and sustainable production are encouraged to attend a workshop Aug. 11 at the Holiday Inn Express, 2801 Jay Road, Seguin, TX.

The event will be from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. The $95 per person registration fee includes lunch. Reservations should be emailed to Myfathersfarm@gmail.com.

“This event will give participants the chance to be trained by professional horticulturists and commercial organic and sustainable growers,” said Dr. Joe Masabni, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service horticulturist, who is organizing the day with My Father’s Farm in Seguin and Home Sweet Farm in Brenham.

The workshop includes a tour of greenhouses and fields at a commercial organic farm plus presentations on soil preparation, crop rotation, pest and fungal control, seed varieties and sources, cover crops, fertilizers, composting and water usage.

For more information, contact Masabni at 979-324-1244 or jmasabni@ag.tamu.edu.
