Ornamental plant and turf conference scheduled Feb. 12 in Amarillo

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and Texas Department of Agriculture will conduct the annual ornamental plant and turf conference Feb. 12 at the Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center, 6500 W. Amarillo Blvd. in Amarillo.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. followed by the first presentation at 9 a.m., said Austin Voyles, AgriLife Extension agricultural and natural resources agent for Potter County.

Lunch will be “on your own.” Presentations will resume at 1:30 p.m. and the conference should conclude by 3:30 p.m.

Five Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units will be offered for private pesticide applicators.

The program will include:

– Insect I.D., Good Bugs, Bad Bugs, and How to Control Them, Dr. Ed Bynum, AgriLife Extension entomologist, Amarillo.

– Management of Trees in an Urban Landscape and Urban Pests, Bryan Scott, Texas A&M Forest Service.

– Lawn and Garden Management Methods, Vikram Baliga, AgriLife Extension horticulture agent in Lubbock County.

– Management of Weed Pests in Turfgrass, Raymond Miller, Dow AgroScience senior sales manager, Fort Worth.

– TDA Laws and Regulations Update, Cheryl Goswick, Texas Department of Agriculture inspector, Amarillo.
