Cover crop workshop at Clemson in June

COVER CROPS FOR SOIL HEALTH & WEED CONTROL IN NO-TILL VEGETABLE PRODUCTION

City Roots Farm
1005 Airport Blvd
Columbia, SC 29205

Wednesday, June 8th

8:45am – 3:30pm

After four years of experimentation with cover crops and limited tillage in organic vegetable production, City Roots Farm has a wealth of experience to share.  Learn how cover crops have been used to maintain soil nutrient levels without the use of additional fertilizers while producing more than 20,000 pounds of produce annually from a 1.5 acre tract.  Discuss cover crop selection, establishment and termination methods, and equipment selection in an organic system; and hear first-hand accounts of the trials and successes City Roots growers have faced reducing tillage.  Leave with a better understanding of how organic vegetable growers can better manage their soil and weed problems.

Mark Dempsey from CFSA, Eric McClam of City Roots Farm, Dave Robb at Clemson University and Dr. Buz Kloot of University of SC.
