Scholarship applications now open!

The William W. Dow Memorial Beginning Farmer and Rancher Scholarship is designed to give new and beginning farmers and ranchers a low-cost opportunity to participate in CFSA’s Sustainable Agriculture Conference Nov 4 – 6, 2016. Scholarships are competitive and both need and merit-based.  The value of this scholarship totals $250.

To qualify for the scholarship the applicant must:

  • Be actively farming on land the applicant owns or leases in NC or SC.
  • Have been farming for five years or less.
  • Applicants should not be a previous Dow scholarship recipient.

The Sustainable Agriculture Conference is an unparalleled opportunity for beginning farmers to learn how to be successful in their sustainable farming enterprises.  Special programming for beginning farmers includes: land access, farm business finances, tool maintenance, carpentry skills, general farming practices for new growers, and an in depth panel conversation with CFSA’s Lomax Incubator Farmers in Training. Other conference workshops cover a range of topics essential for new farms to thrive, including organic weed control, four season farming, soil fertility, pasture-based livestock, pollinator preservation, food safety and processing, agritourism, and direct marketing.

APPLICATIONS DUE by 5 p.m. August 4th, 2016

All applicants will be notified of their award status by August 12, 2016.  Applicants who meet the minimum criteria for a scholarship, but are not awarded one, may still register for the conference at the discounted Early Bird Rate through August 17th.
