Center for IPM seeks programming intern

The Center for Integrated Pest Management at NC State University is seeking applicants for a programming intern. This is a half-time position at $20 per hour.

The primary responsibility of this position will be to convert a computer program from Netlogo to Java, modify Java programs based on input from biologists and improve the (web) graphical user interface of program to make it more responsive, discoverable and attractive.

Skills and qualifications include programming skills in Java, Javascript and other computer languages, ability to create attractive, desktop/mobile adaptable, and maintainable graphical user interfaces, ability to speak and understand English and some knowledge of biology or bioinformatics. Candidate should be familiar with version control systems, development methodologies such as agile, online collaboration tools such as slack or hipchat. In addition, candidate should be able to work on remote systems via a secure shell and be familiar with GNU/Linux or otherUNIX-like operating systems. Experience with documentation systems is desirable.

The ideal candidate would have experience developing simulation video games, preferably those that are map based.
