The Plant Pathology group at DuPont Pioneer is an integral support team to our product development and commercial business efforts.  This Plant Pathology Scientist position will be a key contributor to a research team that provides a plant disease center of excellence for the organization, including but not limited to the following areas:  disease characterization and phenotyping, plant disease diagnostics, inoculum production, phytosanitary support, and research efforts to improve crop disease control methods through genetic resistance, pathogen control, fungicidal control or other best management practices.

We are looking for a highly motivated scientist with a strong background in molecular plant pathology.  Other supporting disciplines in plant sciences such as plant breeding, genetics, molecular biology, statistics, integrated pest management (IPM) and agronomy would also bring beneficial knowledge to the position.  A working knowledge of the biology of important disease traits in row crop species will be essential.  The successful candidate will contribute individually and through our Plant Pathology team to global crop research and development for DuPont Pioneer.  Primary responsibilities include the implementation, execution, and ongoing improvement of disease characterization and host-pathogen interactions that lead to development of disease resistance solutions in our products.

Responsibilities include:

  • Integrate new technologies, including but not limited to genome sequencing and editing, for improving disease trait resistance
  • Ongoing identification and prioritization of disease traits to pursue for resistance solutions in multiple crops species, with initial focus on maize and soybeans
  • Manage and improve upon the molecular characterization of prioritized disease traits for maize and soybeans, with a focus on pathogen characterization and potential product solutions
  • Manage and improve upon the molecular and phenotypic characterization methods for disease traits
  • Further develop and enhance methods for improving disease resistance in our product development efforts
