Assistant/Associate Professor in Entomology and Plant Pathology

The Department of Urban Forestry and Natural Resources at Southern University A &M invites applications for a 9-month, full-time tenure-track faculty position in Entomology and/or Plant Pathology at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The successful applicant will be expected to (1) develop and teach foundation and applied courses and labs in urban forest entomology, plant pathology, plant health care, and integrated pest management to strengthen the urban forestry curriculum for BS, MS, and PhD programs and graduate certificate programs in Urban Forest Science and Natural Resource Management (2) obtain external teaching and research funding that will involve both undergraduate and graduate students, (3) advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, (4) commit to excellence in teaching, research and service to the university and community. Summer research appointment will be available through SUAREC for the first year to ensure the candidate an opportunity to apply for external funding.

Minimal Qualifications :

Candidates must have a PhD in Entomology and/or Plant Pathology and one other degree (BS or MS) in Forestry or closely related field from accredited institutions. Candidates should demonstrate: (1) a good understanding of broad areas of plant-insect and plant disease interactions, insect behavior, invasive pest, and the application of basic biological and chemical factors in developing management schemes for forest and urban forest biota, (2) a strong commitment to teaching, student advisement and recruitment, (3) ability to secure grants and manage a competitive research program and evidence of peer reviewed publication record; (4) professional service and outreach and leadership skills in forest insect and disease control, and (5) excellent communication, interpersonal, and organization skills. Candidates are encouraged to highlight skills and experiences that demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
