Penn State University develops new tool for fruit growers

In Growing Produce

Penn State University Extension reports that Pennsylvania growers will have a valuable tool this growing season. The Network for Environment and Weather Applications (NEWA) IPM Monitoring system, a Cornell University program, is now available for all Pennsylvania growers thanks to funding from State Horticultural Association of Pennsylvania Extension Committee.

New additions to NEWA IPM Monitoring includes a change in the biofix and orchard characteristics to log green tip date, first blossom open date, orchard blight history, bloom date, petal fall date, trees per acre, and age of orchard.

This information can help growers better track the season and monitor and predict disease and insect pressure.
