Weed Science Position in Horticulture Assistant Professor (tenure track)

Description: The Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture announces an academic year, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in specialty crop weed science. The successful candidate will develop an internationally recognized, competitively-funded, and integrated Extension and research program in weed science that focuses on the ecology and management of weeds in horticultural specialty crops (vegetables, fruits, ornamentals). Responsibilities include conducting relevant and responsive translational research to solve weed management problems for the specialty crops industry, and creating and delivering science-based educational materials and programs that address critical and emerging issues. In addition, the candidate should advance weed science through the development of a robust and extramurally funded research program in areas that may include, but are not limited to: ecological and evolutionary processes affecting weed growth and seed and propagule longevity; weed-crop interactions; alternative strategies to herbicides; manipulation of the weed seedbank; identification and management of herbicide-resistant weed species; and cultural, biological, mechanical, chemical, organic or conventional practices that lead to effective weed management strategies in specialty crops. Duties: The Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture, Purdue University, announces an academic year, tenure- track assistant professor position in Landscape Architecture. Candidates should demonstrate a clear potential to excel in an academic environment through excellence in research and peer-reviewed publication of scholarship leading to the development of new disciplinary knowledge. Undergraduate teaching is a primary responsibility of this position, and the successful candidate will be expected to establish a program of engaging classroom and studio-based teaching, student advising, and service. While all candidates must possess a broad set of skills applicable to a comprehensive education in landscape architecture, this position seeks expertise in landscape performance, focused on landscape ecology and ecological factors.
