USDA Awards $16 Million for Research into Sustainable Crop and Livestock Production Methods

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) today awarded $16.5 million in grants to support research into methods for boosting agriculture productivity and ensuring food security in the face of pests, diseases and a changing climate. In addition, USDA announced that it is seeking applications for the next round of projects, which will focus on pollinator health and plant and animal phenomics. The grants are made available through the Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (AFRI), administered by USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA).   Continue reading

USDA Announces the Availability of $16 Million to Support Food Production

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) today announced the availability of more than $16 million in funding to support research, education and Extension efforts to improve food production and increase food security, defined as regular access to affordable, nutritious food. NIFA is funding the grants through the Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (AFRI) Food Security program.

RFA for AFRI Food Security Program has been released

The National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) is pleased to announce the release of the FY 2015 Request for Applications (RFA) for the Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (AFRI) Food Security Program.  AFRI is a competitive grant program to provide funding for fundamental and applied research, education, and extension projects in food and agricultural sciences.  The goal of the Food Security program is to invest in agricultural production research, education, and extension programs for more sustainable, productive and economically viable plant and animal production systems.  In FY 2015, applications are sought in the following priority areas: Continue reading

AFRI Food Security, Beginning Farmers & Ranchers RFAs open

NIFA has recently released two RFAs: AFRI Food Security and Beginning Farmers and Ranchers. For FY 2015, it is anticipated that approximately $16.8 million will be made available to support new awards within the Food Security Challenge Area of AFRI. In FY 2015, application are sought to support agricultural production research, education, and extension to develop more sustainable, productive, and economically viable plant and animal production systems.
