The Department of Entomology & Plant Pathology at North Carolina State University invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level. This faculty position is located on the main campus in Raleigh, North Carolina, and has a 70% research and 30% academic appointment. The position carries responsibilities for research relating to the biology and management of major wood-destroying arthropod pests of structures, mainly termites, but also including wood-infesting ants or beetles. EPA’s Center of Expertise for School Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is excited to offer two upcoming webinars:
On Tuesday, May 10 − Stop School Pests and iPest Manager – School IPM Educational Programs, highlighting two new, free, online school IPM resources:
- The Stop School Pests program, a standardized, peer-reviewed, national IPM training program for school communities, and
- iSchoolPest Manager, an online hub for school IPM materials. These new resources, developed through EPA grants, are intended to help schools initiate and grow their IPM programs, thereby providing students, faculty and staff with healthier learning environments.

IPM professionals who need to boost their continuing education credits or work toward license renewal now have a way to get them without traveling long distances to attend an expensive workshop. Thanks to a new web-based school IPM course curriculum developed by Texas A&M AgriLife specialists, school IPM coordinators, animal control and code enforcement officers, and pest management professionals can get training and continuing education credits without ever leaving their desks.

Have you ever wondered why ants build a nest right next to your mailbox? And when you trample on it, why they would dare to build another one just a foot away? A couple of researchers from Arizona State University did, and they discovered that ants choose their living spaces very similarly to the way humans do—by choosing whichever one has the qualities they liked in the previous one.
