USDA Grants Aim to Expand Science Capacity at Non-Land-Grant Colleges and Universities

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) today announced the availability of $4 million in grants to support research, education and outreach activities at non-land-grant colleges and universities. The funding is authorized through the Agricultural Act of 2014 (Farm Bill).

Vital agriculture research/education programs under funding threat

Agriculture research and education were not spared when the House Agricultural Appropriations Subcommittee passed a FY2012 budget plan May 23. Tasked with drastically cutting programs under its purview, the subcommittee came up with $17.2 billion in proposed spending for fiscal year 2012.
