The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) released details on up to $48.1 million in available funding to support systems-based research and extension activities to accelerate science-based solutions and new technology for the specialty crop industry. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced the grants yesterday at the New York Times Food for Tomorrow Conference in Pocantico Hills, N.Y. The grants are to be funded through NIFA’s Specialty Crop Research Initiative (SCRI).
“The Specialty Crop Research Initiative offers strategic investments to help bring specialty crops to market,” said NIFA Director Sonny Ramaswamy. “By using this approach, we encourage stakeholders to work together to address problem-solving in a comprehensive way that leads to sustainable, positive outcomes and impacts.” Continue reading →

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) today announced the availability of more than $160 million in funding for research, education, and extension projects that address key challenges affecting U.S. agriculture production. NIFA will fund the awards through the Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (AFRI).

The National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) is pleased to announce the release of the FY 2015 Request for Applications (RFA) for the Minor Crop Pest Management Program Interregional Research Project #4 (IR-4). The primary goal of the IR-4 program is to provide safe, effective and economical pest management solutions for growers of minor/specialty crops. NIFA anticipates funding five projects: one to establish a national headquarters and four to establish geographically-based regional IR-4 centers. Continue reading →

We are pleased to announce the release of the 2015 Request for Applications (RFA) for the IPM Enhancement Grants. Deadline for proposals is Friday, January 16 at 5 PM EST.
Please note that the RFA has changed significantly this year. We are using a new outcome-based approach to solicit proposals, so it will affect the way that you compose and submit your proposal.

The Request for Applications for the Southern Regional IPM Grant has just been released. The application deadline is February 29, 2012. Approximately $800,000 is available for research only, extension only or research and extension projects.
Research projects and joint Research-Extension may last up to three years. Please note that one or two year Research or Joint Research and Extension projects may be eligible for no-cost extensions after years one and two, but that no carryover or extension is permitted for these projects beyond three years.
