City of New Orleans Pest Academy, October 10-12, 2017

Join the City of New Orleans Mosquito & Termite Control Board for a great learning experience at the City of New Orleans and the Greater New Orleans Pest Control Association’s 9th Annual Pest Control Academy.  The Academy will be held in New Orleans on October 10-12, 2017. The Academy will feature interactive and hands-on programs regarding identification, biology, and control methods of many urban pests. The Academy is accredited for Louisiana in a variety of categories. Featured speakers this year will be Dr. Roberto Pereira from the University of Florida, Ms. Janet Hurley from Texas AgriLife, and Dr. Mohamed Sallam from the EPA.     Continue reading

Mosquito Control Preparedness workshop April 18

The City of New Orleans is hosting a Mosquito Control Preparedness workshop on April 18 called “Mosquito Control Planning and Response for Zika Virus.

Keep Rodents out of Your School – EPA Webinar, January 27

A webinar, “Keeping Rodents out of Your School,” hosted by the EPA’s Center of Expertise for School Integrated Pest Management (IPM), will be held on January 27 from 12:00 – 1:30 p.m. Eastern Time. This webinar will present the challenges schools face concerning rodents and an IPM strategy that engages the entire school community to successfully manage rodents. The webinar will feature:

  • Bobby Corrigan, Rodentologist, Corrigan Consulting
  • Claudia Riegel, Director, New Orleans Mosquito, Termite and Rodent Control Board

A moderated question and answer session will conclude the event.

New Orleans pests beware: city’s mosquito, rodent and termite control board fights to make city’s buildings pest free

I’ve written several stories about how IPM changes the environment of a school or building when pests are no longer harassing the people inside the building. I’ve also passed along recommendations from specialists on how people can make buildings uninviting for pests. So when I went to New Orleans in April to help present a Friends of Southern IPM Implementer Award to the New Orleans Mosquito, Rodent and Termite Control Board, I wanted to see for myself how their work in IPM has changed the city.
