USDA NIFA is asking for feedback in listening sessions

As the primary extramural funding agency within USDA, The National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) is seeking stakeholder feedback to inform the research, extension and education priorities of NIFA. We are attempting to ensure that we reach a broad spectrum of organizations involved in food and agricultural research and development, market development, or other agricultural organizations that think about food and agricultural customer needs.

Input can be provided in-person at one of the four listening sessions being held across the country, or it can be provided through an online survey through the input form link below.  I have attached informational links also to help you decide how best your organization can engage and share perspectives with us.  I hope you are able to take a few minutes to scan through those links and determine how best your organization can share its input with us.  If it is relatively convenient, I would like to encourage industry stakeholders such as your organization to participate in the in-person session. EPA Releases Draft Policy to Reduce Animal Testing for Skin Sensitization

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released a draft Science Policy to reduce the use of animals in testing chemicals to evaluate whether they cause an allergic reaction, inflammation or sensitization of the skin. The draft policy is open for public comment until June 9, 2018.

“This draft policy is another step toward achieving EPA’s goal of reducing the use of animals and increasing the use of cutting-edge science in chemical testing,” said EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt. Continue reading

EPA Prohibits 72 Inert Ingredients from Use in Pesticides

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is taking action to remove 72 ingredients from its list of ingredients approved for use in pesticide products.

Manufacturers wishing to use these ingredients in the future will have to provide EPA with studies or information to demonstrate their safety. EPA will then consider whether to allow their use. Continue reading

APHIS seeks comments on proposed biological control for citrus psyllid
